World Stage Theatre is committed to amplifying underserved and underrepresented voices, creating a community and culture where imagination, exploration, creativity, and growth thrive.
Welcome to Vanport, a city located between Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington that thrived during World War II. On the heels of the Great Depression, people were eager to find work and make money. When Henry Kaiser put out a call for anyone to come work in his shipyard people came from everywhere to do just that. But what was it really like?
Vanport the Musical was written and directed by actor, author, singer, and native Oregonian, Shalanda Sims in 2012, and performed at Jefferson high school in 2013. After almost ten years, World Stage Theatre, in collaboration with Northwest Children’s Theater School, and the 7th Vanport Mosaic Festival, brings this important story back to the stage from May 20-June 5, 2022. This is a family-friendly show. Purchase tickets here

WHO WE ARE
World Stage Theatre is a multi-cultural, multi-generational arts organization with a focus on history, literature, music, traditional and original works designed to catapult performers and audience members into social consciousness by integrating fantasy, fiction, and a pinch of reality.
The mission of World Stage Theatre is to provide exploration, experience, and exposure to underserved youth curious about the arts, providing culturally relevant storytelling through arts education, performances, and community events.
Through arts, education, and advocacy, we create platforms to elevate disregarded voices while building bridges of unity to disband isms.
Founded in 2006 by Shalanda Sims, World Stage Theatre was birthed out of a desire for change in storytelling, the narrative, accurate and diverse representation in the arts, textbooks and Portland Metropolitan community.
We see arts and culture as the centerpiece of our community development table creating a gathering where connection and collaboration foster partnerships.
World Stage Theatre celebrates service to our community by educating, empowering, and giving voice to youth, artistic performances, creative conversations, partnerships, and outreach.
